En El Viso del Alcor se conoce popularmente a este lugar como “Rincón del Pilar” debido a que antiguamente era utilizado como abrevadero. Entorno a él comenzó a crecer el municipio como núcleo poblacional (siglos XI-XII), posteriormente se desarrollaría hacia arriba un camino (la actual Calle Albaicín) y una acequia hacia abajo, hacia la Huerta del Concejo (la actual Huerta Abajo), donde se encontraban una alberca y unos lavaderos públicos.
