It is located next to the headquarters of the current town hall, the old Palace House of the Counts of Castellar. It is one of the most beautiful squares of Viso del Alcor, as it is located at the foot of the church Santa Maria del Alcor and next to the Consistory.
The first documentary references to this square date back to 1564. In it were held the open councils, was the main market place and were located the main buildings, such as the Town Hall, the Granary, the inn and the jail.
Throughout history it has received different names: Plaza de la Villa, Plaza del Concejo, Plaza de la Fuente, Plaza de la Torre, due to the proximity of an existing square next to the Convent of Corpus Christi, or Plaza de Arriba. In 1907, it was baptized as Plaza del Cardenal Spinola, as we can read on a commemorative plaque.
This neuralgic point lost importance when in the middle of the XVIII century the Town Hall and the Granary were moved to the Plaza de Arriba (current Plaza del Ayuntamiento Viejo).
The Plaza, much smaller than today, was enlarged in the twenties of the last century, specifically in the area occupied by the Cross of the Fallen (installed in 1954), originally occupied by the jail, granary, town hall and oven, and later by the house of the Sardinas, wealthy owners of the town.
This square was remodeled and in its center, was located this tile and brick fountain with the traditional spouts of our land that comes to complete with its aesthetics and sound the historical framework of the Plaza with the traditional Cuesta de la Iglesia and the Parish Temple at the top.
