City Hall | Old Palace of the Counts of Castellar

Not verified.

On the site where the old Palace House of the Counts of Castellar was built, is currently located the Town Hall of El Viso del Alcor, whose construction began in the nineties of the last century, ending in 2007. At the end of the 1970s, prior to the arrival of democracy, the original building was demolished in its entirety.

The original building was used for various purposes before its total destruction. In addition to being the residence of the lords of the town and their dependents, it served as a residence for a short time for the newly arrived Mercedarian friars in the seventeenth century. In the twentieth century, it was home to Trinitarian nuns from 1914 to 1926 (as the Trinitarian Sisters themselves mentioned, their mission was to make young women industrious, inclined to virtue and work, i.e., women of profit) and theatres, housing women’s schools. At the beginning of the Civil War, starting in July 1936, it also served as a prison depot for prisoners and those people considered not to be supporters of Franco’s coup d’état.

This two-story building, which houses most of the municipal services, is located in the nerve center of the town.
