Fuente del Sol

Not verified.

The Fuente del Sol is located to the east of El Viso on the outskirts of the Tablada hillside, next to a mulberry tree that gave shelter to the many people who passed by.

The twelve-meter long watering trough collects water from a single pipe, now unfortunately clogged. It has recently been restored but apparently not with much success, as it is in a very poor state of preservation. This pillar, located in an area of passage and facing the Vega, has been used primarily to quench the thirst of the beasts.

Located specifically on the northeastern slope of the Tablada, this is a fountain of probable pre-Roman origin, associated with the city of Tablada. It must have been used during the Roman period, and bricks, tegulae and other Roman construction elements can be seen in its interior and surroundings.

This very old fountain is related to the pre-Roman cults of the inhabitants of Tablá, as well as those of the Roman period (votive offerings have been found in this place).

Luna—-female characteristics.

Sol——male characteristics.

The fountain is fed by a Roman mine, which runs under the current fairgrounds, and whose first galleries have been explored by the Andalusian Association of Underground Explorations. The first part of the gallery shows a channeling made in sections with bricks in sections with tegulas, among the rubble there are pieces that seem to belong to the channeling and all of them are framed in a context of the Roman period.
